What Rentani is

Rentani is a rental agreement recording system. It helps landlords and tenants create a written record of their rental arrangement.

Rentani does not move money, hold deposits, or act as a financial service.

What we collect

When you create or accept an agreement, we collect:

• Your name
• Your contact detail — email address or phone number
• Your date of birth — stored as a one-way hash. We cannot read it. It is used only to verify your identity when you access your records.
• The terms of your rental agreement — property details, rent amount, start date, house rules
• The date and time you accepted the agreement

What we do not collect

• ID numbers or passport numbers
• Face images or biometric data
• Bank account or card details
• Location data
• Browsing history

How we store your information

Your agreement records are stored securely using Firebase and Supabase — both operate under industry-standard data protection practices.

Your date of birth is converted into a hash before it is saved. A hash is a code that cannot be reversed. Even Rentani cannot read your original date of birth from the stored value.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for any purpose beyond operating your rental record.

Who can see your agreement

Your agreement is accessible via a private link. Anyone with that link can view the agreement.

Your landlord dashboard is protected — it requires your phone number or email plus your date of birth to access. Without both, no one can view your list of agreements.

How long we keep your records

Active agreements are kept for as long as your rental relationship continues. Expired or ended agreements are archived — not deleted. Your rental history is your record. We preserve it.

Your rights under POPIA

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) gives you the right to:

• Know what personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of incorrect information
• Request deletion of your information
• Object to how your information is being used
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

Cookies and tracking

Rentani uses minimal technical cookies necessary to keep the site functioning. We do not use advertising cookies or track your behaviour across other websites.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We will not change how we handle your data without telling you.
